Immersion cooling for mining
Immersion cooling submerges mining hardware in a non-conductive liquid that carries heat away far better than air.
How it works
Machines are placed in tanks filled with a dielectric fluid. In single-phase systems the fluid stays liquid and is circulated through a heat exchanger. In two-phase systems it boils on the hot surfaces and condenses again, carrying more heat.
Benefits
Operators adopt immersion for several reasons:
- [+]Higher stable clock speeds and hashrate
- [+]Less dust, fewer fan failures and longer hardware life
- [+]Much lower noise
- [+]Heat that can be reused, for example for buildings
Trade-offs
Tanks and fluid cost more up front, servicing a machine is messier and not every model is built for it. Many facilities mix methods.
In practice
The Immersion tank upgrade in OnlineCryptoMining adds a glowing fluid tank to your bay and improves your cooling metrics.
Frequently asked questions
Is the fluid safe for electronics?
Yes, dielectric fluids do not conduct electricity, which is why electronics can run submerged.
